Today we are interviewing Lowen Evann (artist) and Defiant Dev (programmer), who both make up the Papersky team. They mainly got inspired by the Paper Mario series. They hope for the passion, charm, and love they try to put into all their work can leave an everlasting impression on all our players. The team at least left a good impression on Wegenbartho, who earlier also gave a shout out to the Papersky team.

PaperSky Team got inspired by…

What kind of games and which well-known persons inspired you to become a developer?
Shadelowen: “Mario and Luigi; Superstar Saga. Hands down one of my favorite games growing up. The charm, humor, and gameplay never went away even after more than a dozen playthroughs. It’s stuck with me for a long time.”
Dev: “Legends of Dragoon for me, the battle system allowing you to do gradually more sophisticated attacks with different timings, and the dragoon forms to give you that extra kick for boss fights lead to some clutch moments that felt fantastic. The story is pretty interesting too but the world and towns are where it shines through the most.”

What is the hardest part of being an indie game developer and how do you try to tackle that problem?
Both: “Any project is the end-result of all its parts. You’re responsible for everything it will end up being. Some people would be overwhelmed looking at it this way, but we’re driven by an outlook like this. We’ve put in the hard work to learn and adapt, and the more we do that, the more we understand and see our goals ahead of us.”

What are you currently working on that needs to be seen and played by others?
Both: “PaperSky! A Paper Mario inspired game featuring Shade’s characters in an RPG adventure. It’s still very early in development and we hope more will join us in watching its development.”

Game Jams

Why should people try your game(s) and where can they find your videogame(s)?
Both: “Our previous projects were mainly game jams, most of which are old and under a different studio name so PaperSky is the one to look forward to, you should play it if you are a fan of the Paper Mario series because it will feature buddy based combat, with action command abilities.”

Are there other Indie game developers that deserve a shout out? Who and why?
Both:” MrRollingCircle is working on a really cute Super Paper Mario-like game, they’re making a lot of good progress all by themselves. Wegenbartho another solo dev with “The Donnerwald Experiment” choosing to go pixel art while keeping the soul of PM in its combat.
