Steam Game Festival: Summer Edition

The Steam Game Festival is an event that shines a spotlight on games set to be released within the next year. From June 16th till 22nd you can check out upcoming releases, try them out with time-limited demos or short playable experiences. You are also able to connect with the developers behind the games and add games to your wishlist for a reminder when they release.

Originally The Steam Game Festival was scheduled to begin June 9, which would have been the week of E3. Later the online festival was rescheduled. It is unknown why the Steam Game Festival was delayed because of the over the killing of George Floyd.  That man died at the hands of Minneapolis police on May 25. Since this incident, lots of people showed their anger and tried to support #blacklivesmather now thousands of protestors are taken to the streets in smaller and larger cities worldwide.

Delayed due to the #BlackLivesMatters movement?

It is likely that Steam wanted to give the stage away for a while during that period. Game companies, including Sony Interactive Entertainment, Activision, Epic Games, and Electronic Arts delayed their recent product announcements because of this incident. Itch.io tried to support the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund with 740+ games for $5 USD in the so-named Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality Many, therefore, make a stand in the discussion.

Earlier a spring edition of the event ran in March. That time it replaced the Game Developers Conference, which was canceled due to COVID-19. It was a success for everyone who misses the opportunity to visit a conference like E3 or the Game Developer Conference. Such an online event is still of little comfort.
